What’s Your Beef?
How are users of public transportation in London finding their experience? What do they find problematic, what would theychange and do they envision this change?
N.B. The idea behind the media content part of our project was to create something interactive and accessible on a platform like YouTube Shorts. We decided to post short clips featuring real interactions with public transport users. The goal was to spark conversation and encourage exchange between the creators and the audience. We started a YouTube Shorts channel called “What’s Your Beef?”, where we interviewed people about their experiences on London’s public transport. Keeping the tone informal was really important to us—we wanted the content to feel relatable and authentic. From the casual setting (wherever we happened to find people) to the props (we used an Oyster card as a makeshift microphone), everything was designed to show that the people being interviewed were everyday commuters with real opinions. The premise is simple: ask commuters what annoys them about public transport. Too often, the strengths and weaknesses of these systems are judged by people who don’t rely on them day to day. We thought it was more meaningful to hear directly from the people who use it regularly. To keep the tone constructive, we ended each video by asking interviewees how they’d like to see their issue addressed. This gave the clips a hopeful, solution-focused ending. The format is easy to replicate in any city, and anyone can host it. That was important to us—making something that feels grounded and spontaneous, but still thoughtful and shareable.
